People with Fibro some times the safest place for them is the bed, and to get out of that bed, it takes a lot of get up and go, to make it through the day. You can find Bev’s great blog at Sassynurse Says… and also on twitter @nursebevw .

I woke up at 8am in a panic because I was afraid I over slept and she missed it. Thankfully I had not! I got up and got some coffee hoping it would help my headache that I was awoke to. I drank about half of it and decided I would straighten my hair so I didn’t embarrass my daughter by going with it in the usual fuzzy ponytail I have been sporting lately. Wow, what a struggle that was.. who would have thought that arms could be so heavy! I finish at about 9:15am and go off to find some clothes that will look ok and still be comfortable. Today is apparently going to be one of those days that even a bra is a pain.

Ok.. so, I’m dressed, find shoes.. got the check book, my purse and go to look for my keys upstairs (my bedroom is in the basement). By this time, I’m ready to lay back down. I feel weak, tired and even breathing seems a chore, but I’m almost there.

It was a wonderful trip but a very busy trip with not much relaxing. Also it was really cold while we were there (which is not normal for this time of the year) and I had to find some warm clothes. One thing that I had to remember quickly was to dress in layers, because while it was cold outside it was really warm inside. I have a hard time with temperature sensitivity, as I go to one extreme to another. Now I just have to get my body clock be in time with Dubai time, this is why I am writing this post at 3:30am and that I have been up since 1am.

Do any of you have any tips on how to travel with Fibro? I am traveling again in a few weeks, and will try to remember the things that I learn on this past trip. Also I have to say that traveling in Business is much easier than economy. I was able to stretch and sleep better on the plane which helped me greatly. You can find more tips at about.com.

In this extensive resource about chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia syndrome, author Mary Shomon takes you on a journey starting with her own personal experience. She simplifies vast amounts of information she consumed after reading fifty books, thousands of research articles, talking to dozen of experts, and corresponding with thousands of fellow patients. At age 17, Mary suffered her first bout of serious illness which started her on a quest to wellness.

Guide Review – Living Well With Chronic Fatigue Syndrome And Fibromyalgia Syndrome

Chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia syndrome have long been poorly understood conditions, both by patients and medical professionals. The good news is that has started to change. CFS and fibromyalgia syndrome can be caused by numerous different triggers. When all the different contributing factors are searched for, recognized, and treated effectively, patients improve significantly and often get well.Mary shows us that there is not one particular trigger for CFS and fibromyalgia syndrome which is common to everyone. There is no definitive list of guaranteed symptoms for CFS or fibromyalgia syndrome. There is no surefire way to get diagnosed, nor one kind of doctor who has all the answers. The plan to wellness must be customized for you.

Mary begins by giving the reader a basic understanding of CFS and fibromyalgia syndrome. She presents checklists for the risk factors and symptoms of CFS and fibromyalgia syndrome. A sample checklist can be found on the book’s website at http://www.cfsfibromyalgia.com. Mary questions if there is any connection between CFS, fibromyalgia syndrome and the following: infection, the immune system, hormones, brain, nervous system, heart, pain, stress, allergens, toxins, sensitivities, sleep, musculoskeletal system, or nutritional imbalances. The book serves as an essential guide to those answers and a vital guide to wellness.

Here is a list from Brigham and Women?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Hospital.
It is possible to develop fibromyalgia with or without the risk factors listed below. However, the more risk factors you have, the greater your likelihood of developing fibromyalgia. If you have a number of risk factors, ask your healthcare provider what you can do to reduce your risk.

There are still many questions regarding the exact cause(s) of fibromyalgia, so risk factors are still being identified. Currently, risk factors include:

Gender

Although fibromyalgia may develop in men or women, statistics show that women are seven times more likely to develop fibromyalgia than men.

Age

People between the ages of 20-60 are at the highest risk of developing the onset of fibromyalgia, although it may occur at any age.

Genetic Factors

There is some indication that genetic factors may be involved in the development of fibromyalgia. Studies have shown that people with family members who have fibromyalgia are at a higher risk of developing it themselves.

Specific Lifestyle Factors

People who have recently experienced a traumatic physical or emotional event (such as divorce, car accident, etc.) may be at a higher risk of developing fibromyalgia.

Psychiatric Illness

While the majority of individuals with fibromyalgia report a history of psychiatric symptoms, many patients do not, and there is no clear evidence that psychiatric illness causes fibromyalgia.

One such disease that is very much like Fibromyalgia is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and has just been named as being real by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (better known as CDC).?Ç They have started an awareness campaign about chronic fatigue syndrome and now have a dedicated Internet site at http://www.cdc.gov/cfs/.

This news story can be found at CNN.

Early diagnosis and treatment of the disease are important for recovery — even though it is not clear what the best treatments are, CDC officials said during a news conference late last week.

“CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome) is a terrible illness that prevents many people from taking part in everyday activities and participating in the things they enjoy,” CDC Director Dr. Julie Gerberding said.
Up to 80 percent of people with chronic fatigue do not know they have it, the CDC said. Its causes are unknown but it can cause profound exhaustion, sleep difficulties, and problems concentrating and remembering.

Flu-like symptoms, including pain in the joints and muscles, tender lymph nodes, sore throat and headaches are also common. “A distinctive characteristic of the illness is a worsening of symptoms following physical or mental exertion,” the CDC said in a statement.

“Diagnosis is primarily made by taking a patient’s medical history, completing a physical exam and lab tests to rule out other conditions,” it added.

“The CDC considers chronic fatigue syndrome to be a significant public health concern, and we are committed to research that will lead to earlier diagnosis and better treatment of the illness,” Gerberding said.
