On May 15th 2010, there will be a meeting in support of Fibromyalgia at Organic Foods and Cafe, located at The Dubai Mall.  This event is hosted by Emirates Arthritis Foundation will take place at 10:30 am and there will be a tour of the gluten foods that the Organic Foods and Cafe offers.  I hope that people that are affected by Fibromyalgia will turn out, and love ones of people will also come to show their support for people with Fibromyalgia.

Last weekend the Emirates Arthritis Foundation held a Stress Management Workshop, and it was a lot of fun.  As people with Fibromyalgia know, stress can be a big trigger for a flare.  This stress can be physical or mental, or a combo of both.  It was really nice to hear people talking about how we can manage some of this stress, and to start listening to our bodies.  I know I can be one of the first ones, to forget to listen to my body and before I know it, I am having a major flare.  So, it was great to listen about going back to basics and start to listen to my body again.

One topic that kept coming up was remembering to breath, and relax.  I know we all breath, because if we didn’t we would not be alive any longer.  The breath that they were talking about was taking that time to listen to your breath and have some really deep breathes.   If we would remember this every time we are in a stressful situation, I bet we would not be as stressed after the event.  So a big thank you to Emirates Arthritis Foundation for the Stress Management Workshop, and reminding me to breath again.

On March the 12th the Emirates Arthritis Foundation will be hosting the 3rd Annual 5K Walkathon at Dubai Festival City. All the proceeds will go to the Emirates Arthritis Treatment fund.  With your support we can help make a difference in people’s life through education, awareness, and supporting patients in the UAE with their expensive medication (as much as 70,000AED per year/ per patient).

The Foundation needs help in many ways, they need help in getting the word out about the event, they need runners/walkers, they need volunteers to help on the day of the event, and craft people to sell items at the craft fair taking place at Dubai Festival City. If you are a company that can help with t-shirts, water for the runner/walkers, or anything that you can think of that will help make the day special, please do.

Runners/Walkers the foundation needs you to help to get people to sponsor you for the walk. The target for this year is for each runner/walker to collect 5,000AED.  If you can collect donations of 5,000AED or more you will receive a 100AED Mall voucher. Please download the collection sheet and get busy collecting.

Arthritis affects 1 in 5 people worldwide. The average age of Arthritis sufferer is 43 years old.  It is not just about old people but young people including children, suffer can suffer from this debilitating disease.  Not only affecting the joints, but skin, eyes, lungs and hearts.

We lost 2 children to Arthritis last year.  We hope in 2010 we can make a difference through education, awareness and supporting patients in the UAE with their expensive medication (as much as 70,000 AED per year/per patient).

We can only do this though with your support. Therefore we would like to set a target of 5000 AED per participant.  Please ask your friends, families and colleagues to help a fantastic cause.

We have returned from a visit to the US to be with family for Thanksgiving. It was a wonderful trip but a very busy trip with not much relaxing. Also it was really cold while we were there (which is not normal for this time of the year) and I had to find some warm clothes. One thing that I had to remember quickly was to dress in layers, because while it was cold outside it was really warm inside. I have a hard time with temperature sensitivity, as I go to one extreme to another. Now I just have to get my body clock be in time with Dubai time, this is why I am writing this post at 3:30am and that I have been up since 1am.

Do any of you have any tips on how to travel with Fibro? I am traveling again in a few weeks, and will try to remember the things that I learn on this past trip. Also I have to say that traveling in Business is much easier than economy. I was able to stretch and sleep better on the plane which helped me greatly. You can find more tips at about.com.

Hello, I know it has been a while since I have made a post, and I am sorry for that. Can I just say that things have been so busy!!! I am not sure if I am going or coming some days. There are still good and bad days for me, and I am working on having more good days. I have been exercising and that has taken a toll. When I get back from gym I am so tired, and I can sleep for a long time. This is not good when it is first thing in the morning and I have to get to work. I am not sure why I am so tired after the gym, I was never like this before. On another note my muscles seems to like to be stretched, and it makes me feel better. I am thinking yoga would be a good exercise for me and my muscles, if anyone knows of a good place for yoga, I am open for ideas.

I am not sure what people my think about this, but I would like to start a Fibro Community or Support Group here in the UAE. There has to be more people out there that need help and support, it is hard to have Fibromyalgia and not to have the support. I am very fortunate to have the support of my family and friends, but not everyone has this support. So give me your thoughts and we will see what we can do.

This past week, I took a big step in my journey with Fibromyalgia. I went to a new doctor, and asked for help. ☺ My new doctor is Dr. Humeira Badsha, at Dubai Bone and Joint Center. She agreed with my doctor in Abu Dhabi that I do have Fibromyalgia, and that I need treatment. She wanted some test first and then some physiotherapy. Also she changed my medicine to the Fibromyalgia drug Lyrica. She also wanted me to see a specialist for my endometrios. So I will see Dr. Janeta with Infinity Clinic, next week. This is a new road for me, and I do feel good about it. My doctor in Abu Dhabi, Dr. Pierre Sejourne, died (my he rest in peace) and forced me to make a change. He helped me the most he could, and he also listened to me, that is more than anyone had done before. So I am on a new journey, and where this road takes me, I have no clue. I will try to write more, about this new journey, in hopes that it can help some one else.

I am sorry that I have not written in a while, and I hope to do better in telling my tale with Fibro. The last few months have been exciting, nerve racking, painful, tiring, and fun. I have started a new job that I really like, and I am doing new and exciting things. This job is keeping me busy and taking my mind off of the Fibro, to a point. I am having more pain with the Fibro, now that I am working a lot, and moving a lot. But in a weird way, it is making me feel more alive. I am working for CENTIMETERCUBE as their Marketing Coordinator. Most of what I am doing is a bit of uncharted waters for me, but that is the part of the fun.
So, how do I mange the Fibro now that I am working a lot, the stress of working, the pain of Fibro, and the other things that come with Fibro? Well I just take one day at a time, and hope that tomorrow will not be worst than today. I am trying to eat better, sleep, and take all my meds. But yesterday, I found out that my doctor died the day before, and now I have to find a new doctor. The problem, here is that many doctors do not believe in Fibro, and they think the person is just sick in the head. It even took a lot to get my records from the hospital where I have been seeing my doctor for a year and a half. He did not keep good records because, his other doctors in his group, would not have agreed to he way of dealing with Fibro. While I understand that, it just makes it harder for me, and I have to just start over. But maybe this is a good thing, and I will find a better way of managing my Fibro. So, here is to new beginnings.
